One of my biggest dreams for Baby Owl was to create and design a maternity and breastfeeding set that was beautiful and functional. I often found when I was expecting that a lot of the generic maternity clothes were awfully dull and boring. So, when I started Baby Owl with the intention of creating unique collections with fashion, functionality and mum in mind, one of my biggest goals was to create a unique and luxurious maternity set. 

I believe we don’t have to sacrifice fashion for functionality during pregnancy or childbirth. Call it superficial, but it’s called shopping therapy for a reason. The reason being that pretty things make us feel good. So, I combined my experiences as a mother with my own personal tastes to create this boho, nordic style maternity and breastfeeding nightgown set and matching romper for a newborn baby. What I believed to be important elements of the design are as follows:

1. The nightdress is made from bamboo fibre, making it extremely soft, breathable and delicate on a mother’s sensitive skin…especially her breasts! The bamboo fabric is breathable and flexible making it comfortable, and comfort is the most important thing after giving birth or during those last few weeks of sleep…or lack thereof. 
2. There are no clips on the nightdress making it much easier for a new mother to access her boobies for breastfeeding. It’s hard enough trying to learn to breastfeed, especially when you’re in pain and still learning how to hold your baby properly so I decided that a pull down top would be much easier for a mother than having to try and open clips at the front of the gown. Additionally, the straps of the gown can be tightened and loosened to grow with your growing boobies. 
3. The gown and dress can also be worn after birth for years to come. It can even be worn by women who aren’t pregnant. Such is the style of the set, it needn’t be an exclusive nightgown set only for mums to be. 
4. Baby’s romper is also made from the same bamboo fabric meaning it is extremely soft on baby’s delicate skin and breathable. 
5. The matching newborn hat can be tied at the top making it flexible in size and can be adjusted to suit the needs of your own little bundle of joy. 
6. The baby romper boasts a zip, not buttons or snap closures. The quicker a mother can change her baby in the newborn stage, the better. They are so sensitive to movement and prone to overeating which means the slightest of movements and they are sick. Not to mention how hard it can be getting them to sleep! Our worst nightmare is changing, feeding, burping and sleeping them, only to put them back into the crib and they poop. The risk of them spitting up or waking up until the next feed is real, so I believe the easier the romper is to get on and off, the better. I found that snap closures took too much time and were sometimes placed in such difficult locations that I had to move my babies too much to get them on and off. With this exclusive Baby Owl romper, you zip open, place baby inside, slowly place hands and legs in and then slowly zip back up. 
7. Instead of selling separate gloves or socks with the set, the coverings for the hands and feet have been sewn into the romper. I believe this is much easier for caregivers for many reasons. Firstly, you can turn them over as and when needed. For example, during spring they may not need hands and feet covered during the day, but at night, it’s necessary. This way, there’s not need to disrupt baby during it’s nap, simply turn them over. Also, baby cannot take them off so there’s less risk and less worry. There is also no worry that baby will take off their gloves or socks and end up with a sleeping hazard in their cot. Lastly, it’s much, much easier for a mother when it comes to washing and keeping her baby’s clothes in sets. As we all know, washing machines feed on our socks!
